Corona Virus – VoA Plans

Just to let everyone know our plans to get VoA through the current crisis and contribute to the greater effort if we can.

Firstly we know that a number of our VIs and guides are working in essential jobs, some on the front line. Many thanks to all of you.

We are lucky in that our overheads are very low, they have been further cut by furloughing the paid staff (just Jill at the moment!) and deferring the start date for our new staff (Chris). This means that we are closed for most things. Dave who is a volunteer and not paid anyway will continue to look after all things financial, answer any urgent emails and coordinate any voluntary help we can give. Furloughed staff will be volunteering locally in the national effort against coronavirus.

We are grateful to most of our accommodation providers for allowing us to defer our bookings with no financial penalty. Big thanks to Witherslack Cycle Barn, Yealand Old School and Wayfarers Hostel.

As a charity for visually impaired people, we are keen to carry on helping so if anyone knows of VIs in our local area who need practical assistance at the moment please put them in touch.

If you have been on a course or guided with us and would like to join the Facebook group to keep in touch with those you know through VoA please email with the email address you use for Facebook and Dave will add you.

We have cancelled our fundraising, matched giving campaign planned for Easter, as we think any giving should be directed at other, greater needs in the community at the moment. Look out for it later in the year!

VoA is well placed to survive this setback and we will be back running courses as soon as it is safe to do so. We look forward to welcoming everyone back then. Lets all try to keep fit if we can and not vegetate!!
